Smith County, Texas was created in 1846 from Nacogdoches County, Texas. It was named for Texas Revolutionary General James Smith.  Tyler, Texas is the largest city in the central east Texas area and is the eighth fastest growing area in the State of Texas.  Tyler claims the title "Rose Capital of the Nation" and holds the Texas Rose Festival in October.  Tyler, Texas is the county seat of Smith County.
